A little bit about us

The Beginning…

On March 24, 1959, a group of employees of the Cheektowaga Central School District assembled at the home of Bob Criden, music teacher, for the purpose of organizing a credit union. Under the guidance of Marty Stern, NYS Credit Union League consultant, the group filed for approval of a federal charter. The subscribers to the organization were: Rosalie Turton, Robert Criden, Patrick Hartnett, Lawrence Whelan, Ruth Peters, Amelia Busch, William Fischer, and Donald Moyce. Approval of the organization was granted and a charter was issued on April 2, 1959.

On July 1, 1959, the books of the credit union were opened, and the first deposits were received. Thanks to a considerate Board of Education, our members enjoyed the benefit of payroll deduction. Our financial and statistical report for the end of June showed 29 members, $259.93 in assets and $203.15 in shares.

Our first loan was granted on September 24, 1959 for the maximum limit of $200.00. By the end of the year, outstanding loans totaled $1,106.60, shares had risen to $3,070.69, and we had a loss of $8.97.

Our first annual meeting was held on January 22, 1960. Our first annual dividend was paid on December 31, 1960.

The Changes…

On April 1, 2008, we opened our membership up to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the Town of Cheektowaga. This allows us to offer our vast array of services to a wider group of people.

On May 1, 2008, we implemented our interactive Home Banking and Bill Pay options. This day also marked the beginning of electronic statements. These options have been greatly received by the membership.

On October 1, 2009, our name changed from the Cheektowaga Central FCU to the Cheektowaga Community FCU.

On April 1, 2012, we implemented Mobile Banking thru the use of your cell phone.
